Day 75---3/17/12

Posted by Athena Papadopoulos on March 17, 2012 at 9:40 PM

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!!! None of us actually realized that it was today untill about halfway into our run...but we were all wearing some green...so no worries. I actually thought I would shed some light for those of you who have no idea where St. Patrick's Day came from. Not that anyone needs the history lesson, but I think it's a neat story. St. Patrick was actually not Irish. Who knew right?!? He was from Wales and he was kidnapped and taken as a slave when he was 16 to Ireland where he was kept for 6 years. It was during that time that he found God and started seeking him for everything and praying A LOT. He finally escaped after six years and went back to Wales to study the bible. But God called him back to the country of Ireland where he served as a missionary until he died on March 17th. Many pagans were converted to Christianity during his time there and that is why we celebrate St. Patrick's Day on the day of his death. Those are just some small details of his life, but it's awesome isn't it. We sometimes think that our holidays have no christian meaning...but they do. So sooo much. Not a bad holiday when you know the truth.

As far as all the running today, it went pretty well. We were definitely all pretty tired today, but God carried us through. I couldn't help but think about a guy back home that runs in my neighborhood today when I was running. If you live in my hometown, maybe you've seen him before. He has no arms, but he is out there running almost everyday. I couldn't help but think about how God gives us the strength to do things even when it seems that our circumstances would complicate things. I felt like my limbs and feet were rotting away, but I knew that God was capable of giving me the needed strength. Just like he compels that man in my neighborhood to run, even if he doesn't have the arms to push his legs forward. Wow.

We have wonderful accomadations for the weekend and a great family to spend some time with. I can't even express how grateful I am and blessed. God does way more than I could have ever hoped, EVERY TIME. It really blows my mind. God is soooooo good. Church tomorrow should be wonderful too. We are going to have the opportunity to share, so pray for God's words to flow forth and not our own. To him be all the glory!

Thanks for reminding me about what a great missionary St. Patrick really was, what a story. Love reading yours, Haleigh's and Heather's blogs. It reminds me that God is working among you there, but he is also moving in the hearts and lives of those at home and doing great and marvelous things :)
